About Mt. Kagenobu
Tokyo Metropolitan Hachioji City and Kanagawa Prefecture Sagamihara City share this mountain on their border, and its elevation is 727 m. Together with Mount Takao, which is popular as a mountain that even beginners can easily climb, it forms part of the Oku-Takao Traverse Route.
A popular mountain as a hiking course
There are several routes, but all of them can be climbed in about one hour, making it a beginner-friendly mountain. From the summit you have a sweeping view of the Kanto Plain, and you can see Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, Mount Tsukuba, Mount Fuji, and more. There are benches and tables, so you can eat a boxed lunch at the summit or relax and enjoy the scenery while taking a break.
The appeal of diverse routes you can choose according to your skill level
In addition to the many trailheads leading up to Mount Kagenobu, you can also do traverses from Mount Takao or Mount Jinba, allowing you to choose a route that matches your climbing level, experience, and physical condition. It is a mountain where you can fully enjoy nature and climb without overexerting yourself, and you can say it has great depth, as each route offers different scenery.
A teahouse open only on weekends is also popular
At the teahouse “Sankakuten Kage Shin Koya” near the summit, you can enjoy simple yet nourishing dishes such as nameko mushroom miso soup, mountain vegetable tempura, and oden. If you make a reservation, you can also experience rice-cake pounding (mochitsuki) and eat freshly pounded mochi.
A sacred place for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
The birthplace of the Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, is Kagenobu Mountain, Minamitama District, Tokyo Prefecture (Hachioji, Mount Kagenobu), and along the mountain trail you will find posters of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba characters and maps listing their birthplaces displayed on signboards and so on. In addition, the cherry blossoms at the summit, which are at their best from mid to late April, are a variety called “Kasumi-zakura” (Kasumi cherry). For fans, this is a highlight to enjoy together with the climb.
