Image & Copyright Policy
Where Japaniche’s photos and images come from, how we handle anime, manga, and other works, and how rights holders can request corrections or removal.
This page explains where the images on Japaniche come from and how we handle the rights of creators and other third parties. The site is run by GROWTH Holdings Inc. (“we” or “us”).
1. Images We Use
Every image on this site falls into one of the following categories:
- Photos taken by our editorial team
- Images provided or licensed to us by rights holders such as venues, shops, companies, and local governments
- Images used in line with the terms for press and promotional materials set by official websites
- Images from stock photo sites, used under license
- Scenes from anime and other works, shown within the scope of quotation permitted under Japan’s Copyright Act (see Section 2)
We credit or cite the source of provided and licensed images wherever possible. Quoted images always carry the source and rights notice in the caption. Maps are embedded using Google Maps.
2. Anime, Manga, and Game Works
We show scene stills and character images only with the rights holder’s permission, within the terms of use the rights holder has set, or within the scope of quotation permitted under Japan’s Copyright Act.
In our anime pilgrimage articles, we sometimes quote scenes from a work to compare its setting with the real-life location. When we do, we follow these rules:
- Our own photos and writing form the core of each article, and we quote only as many scenes as the comparison requires.
- Quoted images are presented so they are clearly distinguishable from our text and photos, and the caption gives the title of the work and the rights notice (such as a © line).
- We do not alter the content of quoted images.
- We never use quoted images as an article’s featured image or social share image.
- If a rights holder has set conditions for quoting or using scene stills, we follow them.
We mention titles and character names to introduce and discuss the works. Unless otherwise stated, this site is not an official or authorized site of any work’s rights holders.
3. Our Approach to Photography
- Inside shops and venues, we follow photography rules and get permission when needed.
- We blur or otherwise obscure anyone who appears in our photos in a way that could identify them.
- We do not take photos where photography is prohibited, or in ways that disrupt daily life, such as in residential areas.
4. Using Content from This Site
If you quote text from this site, keep the quoted part clearly distinguished from your own writing and cite the article title and URL as the source. Please do not republish our photos or images. For details, see our Terms of Use.
5. For Rights Holders
