Main Characters

• Protagonist

  Tanjiro Kamado

  竈門炭治郎

  The protagonist. He is the eldest son of a family that makes its living burning charcoal, and the night he goes down to town to sell it, a demon slaughters his family. To turn his sister Nezuko, now a demon, back into a human, he joins the Demon Slayer Corps, where he uses Water Breathing along with the Hinokami Kagura handed down in his family.

• Younger Sister

  Nezuko Kamado

  竈門禰豆子

  Tanjiro's sister and the eldest daughter of the Kamado family. Muzan's blood enters a wound and turns her into a demon, and she is the only one in the family to survive. She wears a bamboo muzzle, and by day she is carried in a box on her brother's back, out of the sunlight. The urge for human blood is something she holds down by her own will.

• Fellow Slayer

  Zenitsu Agatsuma

  我妻善逸

  A swordsman in the Demon Slayer Corps who joined at the same time as Tanjiro. He is timid and defeatist, and when fear overwhelms him he drops into something like a faint. Still half asleep, he shows what he can really do. He has been able to master only the First Form of Thunder Breathing, sharpening it as far as it will go.

  Inosuke Hashibira

  嘴平伊之助

  A foundling raised by boars, and a peer of Tanjiro and Zenitsu. He wears a boar's head as a mask and fights bare-chested. His weapons are two Nichirin Swords he has deliberately chipped, and his fighting style is Beast Breathing, which he worked out himself without a teacher.

• Water Hashira

  Giyu Tomioka

  冨岡義勇

  The Water Hashira, who uses Water Breathing. Hashira are the highest-ranking swordsmen in the Demon Slayer Corps. He moves to cut down Nezuko after she becomes a demon, but the sight of brother and sister shielding each other makes him lower his blade, and he urges Tanjiro to join the Corps. A man of few words, he is easily misread.

• The First Demon

  Muzan Kibutsuji

  鬼舞辻無惨

  Created more than a thousand years ago, he has ruled over the demons ever since. By sharing out his own blood, he adds to their numbers. He is the one who killed Tanjiro's family and turned Nezuko into a demon. His aim is to overcome sunlight, his one weakness, and become immortal.
