Komatsu Airport is an airport in the city of Komatsu in Ishikawa Prefecture. It has only one runway, and civilian airliners and the fighter jets of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force share it. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force is the branch that takes charge of the air within the Self-Defense Forces, the organization responsible for Japan's defense.
Kanazawa Station is about 40 minutes away on the limousine bus run by Hokutetsu, the Hokuriku Railroad. Buses also leave here for the Kaga Onsen hot spring resorts and for Fukui Station.
Airliners and Self-Defense Force Aircraft from the Observation Deck
The third floor of the terminal building has a free observation deck. It is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (as of September 2026). Along with the airliners and cargo planes coming down onto the runway, Self-Defense Force aircraft can be seen up close from here. After seeing an airliner off, you can wait on the same deck for a Self-Defense Force plane to take off.
In front of the terminal stand statues of Benkei and Togashi, the two figures known from the kabuki play Kanjincho. Kabuki is a classical theater that has been performed since the Edo period, and the Ataka Barrier, the setting of this play, lies on the coast within the same city of Komatsu.

Appears in Nippon Sangoku
In Nippon Sangoku, a manga in which three nations fight over a future Japan where civilization has regressed, Komatsu Airport appears as the place where Mitsuhide Ryumon of Yamato and his group make camp.
It is also one of the checkpoints in the official Nippon Sangoku Four Cities Tour stamp rally through December 31, 2026, and the prize is an Ishikawa original wallpaper of Mitsuhide Ryumon.
