A station in the center of Fukui City, where the Hokuriku Shinkansen began service in March 2024. Moving dinosaur monuments line the area in front of the station, making it the gateway to Fukui, the kingdom of dinosaurs. The moment you step out of the Shinkansen ticket gates, dinosaurs are there to greet you, giving the station an atmosphere like nowhere else.
Station Information
The Hokuriku Shinkansen serves the station (with connections to Hapi-Line Fukui, the Echizen Railway, and the Fukui Railway tram)
The Dinosaur Square at the west exit is free, and the dinosaur robots move every 30 minutes from 9:00 to 21:00
A staffed ticket office is available (the central window is open from 7:00 to 20:00)
A Station Where Moving Dinosaurs Greet You
The Dinosaur Square at the west exit has three dinosaur robots, including the long-necked Fukuititan and a facing pair of Fukuiraptor and Fukuisaurus. From 9:00 to 21:00, every 30 minutes, they move and let out cries. On the benches you can also spot Juratic, Fukui Prefecture's dinosaur mascots.
Dinosaurs Throughout the Station
Counting the murals and video displays, there are more than 20 dinosaur features around the station. In spring 2024, a Tyrannosaurus robot about 5 meters tall and 12 meters long was added. At the east exit there is a Triceratops parent and child, which also begin moving at set times.
The Opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen
With the extension in March 2024, the city was connected to the Tokyo area without transfers. Development around the station advanced at the same time, and new commercial facilities and plazas now draw lively crowds. It has become a new gateway for traveling the Hokuriku region.
A Convenient Hub for Sightseeing
The Echizen Railway and buses connect here, making it a starting point for the Dinosaur Museum, Eihei-ji Temple, and the Tōjinbō cliffs. The ruins of Fukui Castle are a short walk away, so it pairs well with a stroll around town.
