Fukui
福井県
Where is Fukui?
Fukui Prefecture sits on the Sea of Japan coast in central Honshū’s Hokuriku area. Picture it as north of Kyoto and Lake Biwa, west of Nagoya, and south of Kanazawa (Ishikawa). It faces Wakasa Bay and the rugged Echizen coast. The northern area (Echizen/Reihoku) centers on Fukui City; the southern area (Wakasa/Reinan) includes Tsuruga and Obama. Straddling the boundary between the Kansai and Chūbu regions, Fukui is a natural link from Kyoto–Osaka to the Sea of Japan side.
