About Shibashi Enbujo Theatre

Located in a theater in Higashi-Ginza, Tokyo City, it lies on the way from Kabukiza Theatre toward the Tsukiji and Kachidoki areas. Every spring, the “Higashi Odori” performances by the Shinbashi training school are held here, and it is also famous as a place where you can enjoy sake and side dishes while watching performances that are normally “no first-time customers allowed” and can only be seen by regular patrons and their invited guests.

Earphone guide rentals and plot summaries available on the website

Depending on the performance, you can rent English earphone guides, and there is an official website, “KABUKI official,” that explains how to purchase tickets and introduces plot summaries of the programs. It provides detailed information on the programs at theaters operated by Shochiku, so it is recommended to check it together.

Convenient access from Higashi-Ginza and Tsukiji

  • 5 minutes on foot from Higashi-Ginza Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line and Toei Asakusa Line
  • 3 minutes on foot from Tsukijishijo Station on the Toei Oedo Line

There are not many restaurants or other places around the theater, but the Tsukiji and Higashi-Ginza areas are within walking distance. In addition, the theater has a drink counter, a shop, and a restaurant that can be used during intermissions. The restaurant can be reserved on the same day, and boxed lunches purchased at the drink counter can be eaten at your seat before the performance or during intermissions. In addition to the theater’s original makunouchi boxed lunches and performance-limited boxed lunches, boxed lunches containing the famous grilled chicken from Ryogoku Kokugikan are also popular. At the shop, you can buy long-established confectionery, Japanese sundries, and original goods from Shinbashi Enbujo Theatre, which are also convenient as souvenirs.

Hosting performances as one of Shochiku’s main theaters

One of the three major film companies in Japan is Shochiku Co., Ltd. Originally founded as a theatrical entertainment company, it later expanded into film distribution and production. As one of the theaters operated by Shochiku, Shinbashi Enbujo Theatre presents kabuki, Shinpa, Shochiku Shinkigeki, Shinkokugeki, Zenshinza performances, and theatrical performances by singers, among others.

Because it has a hanamichi (runway-style stage), there are many kabuki performances, and it is also close to Kabukiza Theatre and “Togeki,” a cinema that screens “Cinema Kabuki,” making it an extremely attractive location for kabuki lovers.
