  Naruto's classmate and greatest rival. Heir to the Sharingan, his clan's hereditary eye technique, he chooses to leave the village to take revenge on his older brother. His relationship with Naruto is the axis of the entire story.

  A kunoichi (female ninja) on Team 7 alongside Naruto and Sasuke. Apprenticed to the Fifth Hokage, Tsunade, she masters medical ninjutsu and acquires her mentor's superhuman strength.

  Kakashi Hatake

  The jōnin (elite ninja) in charge of Naruto's Team 7. Known as the Copy Ninja for the more than 1,000 jutsu he has copied with his Sharingan, he later serves as the Sixth Hokage.

  One of the Legendary Sannin, Naruto's mentor, and the one who gave him his name. A master of toad summoning and Sage Jutsu, he is also the author of the novels Kakashi loves to read.
