About Onnazaka

Onnazaka is a gently stepped slope that runs along the border between Ochanomizu and Jimbochō. It sits about 100 meters west of its “pair,” Otokozaka, and has two landings that make it easier to go up and down.

The slope was built in 1924 during post–Great Kantō Earthquake reconstruction to connect the hillside of Sarugakuchō with Surugadai. Because it curves and is gentler than the straight, steep Otokozaka, it was named “Onnazaka” (“women’s slope”). The nearest stations are Ochanomizu and Suidōbashi. At the foot of the slope is Kanda Jogakuen, and the path is well loved as a daily route for students and locals.

The staircase Reze uses on her way to her part-time job at the café “Futamichi(二道)” closely resembles Onnazaka, and fans treat it as a pilgrimage spot. She goes up and down it several times, and it’s tied to key turning points in the story, making the scenes especially memorable.
