About Wonder Parlour Cafe

Wonder Parlour Cafe is a classic British-style maid cafe in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. The closest exit is Ikebukuro Station's east exit. It stands near Otome Road, a street lined with anime and manga goods shops that is popular with women. The cafe opened in 2005 and is a long-established shop with more than 20 years in business.

The cafe recreates the parlour maid of late-19th-century Victorian Britain. A parlour maid was a servant who waited on guests in the drawing room. The interior, the maid uniforms, and even the way guests are received are all based on records from the period. There is no lively staging here, and the cafe suits a quiet spell over a cup of tea.

Tea and the Menu

The tea is what this shop is known for. The Japan Tea Association has certified it as a shop that serves excellent tea, a status it has held without interruption since 2015. According to the official site, it was the only place in Tokyo's 23 wards to hold that certification when it was first granted.

The tea arrives at the table in a pot. As of July 2026, the standard Darjeeling, Assam, and Ceylon are 900 yen per pot. There is also a Maid Tea, with a particular leaf assigned to each maid. The leaves are brought in from partner shops, among them a specialist tea shop in Yamagata Prefecture.

The classic pairing with tea is the scone. One order brings two, served with cream and strawberry jam. You can also choose a set that combines the dessert of the day with a drink.

How It Works and House Rules

Visiting the cafe comes with a table charge, in effect a seating fee. As of July 2026 it is 1,300 yen per person, and separately each guest orders at least one item. Stays are limited to 90 minutes.

Inside, the basic expectation is to stay quiet. Activities that make noise, such as videos, phone calls, and games, should be avoided. Talking with guests at other tables, or moving to a different seat on your own, is not allowed. You may photograph the food, the interior, and the people you came with, but not the maids or other guests.

The clientele is mostly women, who make up about 60%, according to the cafe's official job listings. The official site clearly states that it offers no sexually suggestive services or performances. The atmosphere is calm, well suited to anyone who wants a quiet visit.

Opening Days to Check Before You Visit

Regular closing days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, though the cafe occasionally opens on an irregular basis. Before you head out, it is worth checking the opening calendar on the official site to be sure.

The cafe is open from noon to 10 p.m. Last order for food is one hour before closing, and for drinks and desserts 30 minutes before.

Reservations can be made by phone only, within the current month, for up to six people. Payment is cash only, and each table settles its bill together.
