About Huis Ten Bosch
Huis Ten Bosch is a theme park located in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, in the Kyushu region. The park grounds, which recreate the streets of the Netherlands, are frequently used as filming locations for movies, TV dramas, and commercials.
A Theme Park Symbolizing Japan-Netherlands Friendship
One of the defining features of Huis Ten Bosch is its townscape design, which evokes the rich natural landscapes and atmosphere of the Netherlands. The facilities and city emblems were created with the cooperation of the Dutch government and are faithfully modeled after actual buildings. Palace Huis Ten Bosch, which houses a museum, is a reproduction of a palace belonging to the Dutch Royal Family and serves as a symbol of friendship between Japan and the Netherlands.
A Real "Town" Within a Theme Park
Furthermore, the park is officially designated as a "town" within Sasebo City and includes a residential area called Wassenaar. Separated from the main park by a canal, Huis Ten Bosch is easily accessible to Wassenaar residents, who can enjoy the park free of charge. Because of this, many people purchase these residences as second homes or villas.
A Wide Variety of Attractions
The park offers a broad range of experiences, from indoor attractions utilizing cutting-edge technology like VR to outdoor athletic-style challenges. Highlights include Castle in the Sky, an athletic attraction where visitors navigate obstacles like suspension bridges and rope nets high in the air; The Mansion of Count Chocolat, where you can learn about chocolate, enjoy tastings, and even try chocolate drinks from a faucet; and meeting with Miffy, the famous character created by Dutch picture book author Dick Bruna. There is something for everyone, from children to adults.

The museum within Palace Huis Ten Bosch displays artworks from around the world, including copperplate engravings by Rembrandt and a collection by M.C. Escher, known for his optical illusions. Special exhibitions are held regularly and attract significant attention. As the park has the largest total area of any theme park in Japan, a wide range of transportation options are available for getting around, including rental cycles, cruisers, gondolas, and park buses. This allows visitors to explore the stylish, European-style streets both efficiently and enjoyably.

As of December 2025, the park features Christmas illuminations. Highlights include the Grand Chandelier Tree, a new symbol of Amsterdam City, and the Shower of Lights, which combines a musical fountain show with light displays and fireworks.

Additionally, the fountain show Water Magic, the Aurora Garden of Light which spreads from a 60-meter-wide waterfall of light into the garden, 3D Projection Mapping, and the Fantasia of Lights (where a dome glows in sync with music) all change their presentation to match the season.
