The Riverside City "Edogawa City"

Edogawa City is the only city in Tokyo's 23 wards that has "river" in its name, surrounded on three sides by rivers. This geographical feature highlights its history of development alongside water.

The city is home to many water-friendly parks, providing precious spots to enjoy riverside nature while still in the metropolis.

Kasai Rinkai Park and Kasai Rinkai Aquarium

Facing Tokyo Bay, Kasai Rinkai Park is characterized by its vast lawn and beautiful seaside scenery. The Kasai Rinkai Aquarium within the park is themed around "Tokyo's Sea," featuring a giant donut-shaped tank "Voyagers of the Ocean" where you can see schools of tuna. It is a popular spot among tourists from abroad.

Preserving Downtown Culture

Edogawa City still breathes the old downtown culture. Especially in the Koiwa and Hirai areas, traditional shopping streets remain, offering a glimpse into the daily lives of local people.

It is an event where you can experience the traditional Japanese summer culture of enjoying fireworks in yukata.

A Leading Agricultural Area in Tokyo and "Komatsuna"

Edogawa City is a rare area in Tokyo's 23 wards where agriculture is still thriving. It is especially famous for the cultivation of Komatsuna. The name "komatsuna" itself is said to be derived from Komatsu in Edogawa City.

The history of komatsuna dates back to the Edo period when the 8th Tokugawa Shogun Yoshimune was served a clear soup with local greens during a falconry visit to Komatsugawa Village in Edogawa City. Delighted by its taste, Yoshimune named the greens "komatsuna" after the place.
