Temple (Tera)

A temple (tera) is a Buddhist religious facility built as a place of worship and practice. Monks live and train there, housing Buddhist statues and ritual objects, while ceremonies such as funerals and memorial services are also held. Japan is home to approximately 77,000 temples, many of which are cherished as historic and cultural landmarks.
