Where is Sagano?
Sagano is located in the northwestern part of Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, and is known as an area rich in nature within Kyoto City. To the east, it borders the Arashiyama district, which is close to the city center of Kyoto, to the north is Takao, to the west is Keihoku Town, and to the south is the Matsuo district. It is about 10 km from Kyoto Station, with JR Saga-Arashiyama Station and the Randen (Keifuku Electric Railroad) Arashiyama Station being the nearest stations.
Geographically, it features a basin-like terrain formed by flatlands along the Hozu River (Katsura River) and the surrounding mountains. This terrain creates a unique landscape and climate, allowing one to enjoy beautiful natural scenery throughout the seasons. Particularly, it showcases different expressions each season, such as cherry blossoms in spring, fresh green leaves in summer, autumn foliage, and snowy landscapes in winter.

Getting Around
Access to Sagano is convenient from within Kyoto City. The nearest station is "Saga-Arashiyama Station" on the JR Sagano Line (Sanin Main Line), which is about 20 minutes from Kyoto Station. Additionally, "Arashiyama Station" on the Hankyu Railway and "Arashiyama Station" on the Keifuku Electric Railroad (Randen) are also available, taking about 30 minutes from the city center.
For sightseeing, the "Sagano Romantic Train" is popular, running approximately 7.3 km from "Torokko Saga Station" to "Torokko Kameoka Station" in about 25 minutes. The schedule varies by season, so it's necessary to check in advance.
For moving around the area, rental bicycles are convenient, with rental shops located throughout the Saga and Arashiyama areas. City buses also operate, connecting major tourist spots. Walking is ideal for enjoying the atmosphere, with paths like the Bamboo Grove and between temples being about 15 to 20 minutes apart on foot. Taxis are also easily accessible, especially convenient for group tours or when time is limited.
